Overview
About This Place
Known in Arabic as Jazirat Bin Ghannam, Purple Island is a hidden gem off Qatar's northeast coast near Al Khor. The island sits at the heart of a dense mangrove ecosystem, its channels ideal for kayaking. The island gets its nickname from the purple sea snail shells that once lined its shores, historically used to produce the precious Tyrian purple dye.
