Overview

About This Place

💡Did you know? The Pearl is built on reclaimed land where pearl diving once happened, the island's name directly honors the industry that sustained Qatar for centuries before oil.

The Pearl is a stunning man-made island situated near Doha's prestigious West Bay district, and one of the most glamorous destinations in the entire Gulf. Spanning roughly 4 square kilometers of reclaimed land, the island features Mediterranean-style yacht-lined marinas, elegant residential towers, private villas, and luxury hotels. Its waterfront promenades are lined with premium designer boutiques and showrooms, while its dining scene ranges from casual waterfront ice cream spots to Michelin-worthy five-star culinary experiences. Pedestrian-friendly squares, lush landscaped gardens, and beautifully lit plazas give the island a distinctly European feel, earning it the nickname the "Arabian Riviera."

History

Historical Significance

Developed by United Development Company (UDC) from the early 2000s, The Pearl was built on the very waters where pearl diving once took place, making its name a deliberate tribute to Qatar's most important pre-oil industry. It was the first location in Qatar where foreign nationals could own property on a freehold basis, a landmark moment in the country's real estate history. Construction began in 2004, with the first residents moving in by 2009. Today, The Pearl is home to a thriving community of over 40,000 residents and remains one of the most visited and photographed destinations in Doha.
