About This Place

💡Did you know?During the 2006 Asian Games opening ceremony, Aspire Tower was lit with a real Olympic-style flame visible from across Doha.

Aspire Tower, known as the Torch Doha, is one of Qatar's most iconic landmarks and one of the most distinctive structures in the Gulf. Rising 300 meters above the Aspire Zone sports complex in the south of Doha, the tower is shaped like a colossal torch, a design conceived specifically to hold the symbolic flame of the 15th Asian Games in 2006. To this day it marks the highest positioning of a Games flame in history. Beyond its symbolic role, the tower is a fully functioning luxury destination: its upper floors house a five-star hotel with over 1,500 guest rooms, and its revolving restaurant near the summit offers 360-degree panoramic views across Doha and the surrounding desert.

History

Historical Significance

Aspire Tower was built between 2005 and 2007, designed by architect Hadi Simaan and constructed by the Midmac-Six Construct joint venture. Its construction was central to Qatar's broader vision of transforming the country into a world-class sports destination, a vision that found its ultimate expression in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The tower anchors the wider Aspire Zone complex, which includes the Khalifa International Stadium, Aspire Academy, and a sprawling public park, making the area one of the most complete sports and leisure districts in the Middle East. The tower's torch form is lit at night, visible from across the city as a permanent symbol of Qatar's sporting ambitions.
