Overview
About This Place
Designed by Jean Nouvel and inspired by the desert rose crystal, the National Museum of Qatar tells the complete story of the country — from ancient geology and Bedouin heritage to the discovery of oil and Qatar's emergence as a global nation. The building wraps around the historic palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani.
History
Historical Significance
The National Museum of Qatar opened in 2019, replacing an earlier museum on the same site. The decision to preserve the old palace within the new structure symbolizes Qatar's approach to identity — honoring the past while building boldly into the future.
