Widely considered one of the greatest buildings of the 21st century, the Museum of Islamic Art was the final major work of I.M. Pei. Situated on an artificial island in Doha Bay, its white limestone geometry distills 1,400 years of Islamic architectural tradition. Inside, the collection spans ceramics, textiles, jewelry, manuscripts, and metalwork from Spain to India.

Qatar began assembling its collection of Islamic art in the 1980s. The decision to commission I.M. Pei resulted in a museum that opened in 2008 and immediately became an architectural landmark, cementing Doha's reputation as a global cultural capital.
